To begin with this blogging, I would like to express my deep appreciation to 不良寒舍 who recommended this movie which I personally think it is a wonderful Irish masterpiece even though it had already known as awards winning film.

I decided to watch it also due to the attraction of the following synopsis:

A Guy (with no name – Glen Hansard) is singing his heart out on the streets of Dublin for tip money. One day a Czech Girl (Marketa Irglova) stops to listen to the Guy play his music. She is very impressed by his songs and his passion for music.

The Guy is a simple man who repairs vacuum cleaner and dreams of becoming a recording star. Having broken up with his girlfriend, he reflects his emotions in his new songs. The Girl who happens to have a broken vacuum cleaner also has a musical background of playing the piano and writing songs.

Their music brings them together and the Girl begins to help the Guy realize his dream. They begin to share their music and their feeling for each other and begin their new and wonderful life.

Usually, the award winning movie would not bring me any surprise, and hence, I do not hope for any expectation on it. However, the <ONCE> gave me the total opposite of the usual opinions that I have towards the common award winning films. I begin to love the <ONCE> while it was playing on.

I was surprised when the first song namely, “Say It to Me Now” that the guy (Gled Hansard) played it on the streets of Dublin. You could sense his deepest emotion towards this song as he sang it out loud all from his heart. Another remarkable song namely “Falling slowly”, while practiced with Marketa Irglova in one of her favorite piano store as she always visited, I started to fall in love with the duet and began to hope for more touchy songs playing in the <ONCE>.

The <ONCE> is not an extraordinary film. It recorded the life as the type of down-to-earth particularly in true friendship or love or appreciation you might want to call. They have the same passion towards music which led them to have their own dream to achieve. Gled, decided to go to London for his dream of becoming a recording star and Marketa has also decided to give her helping hands to fulfill his dream. They finally made it in the end after some minor hiccups.

I like the story ending because they gone to their separately way of life even though it might not be the good ending as you expected. However, realistically speaking, in my opinion this might be the best for them as they have their separate life to move on. If you had watched the <ONCE>, you should know what I’m trying to tell here….
